CommunicAsia 2009- Interview with Mobile World

As you noticed, there has been a slow update over the past week on this blog. The reason is because I was at Communic Asia 2009 event that took place in Singapore.

So how was Communic Asia 2009? For me, the attendance was disappointing although the first day was crowded but then attendance was worst during the following 3 days. I estimate there was at least a 50% drop on attendance this year.

Some updates are new phones announcement from Nokia(Nokia Connection event), Samsung, LG Mobile, Sony Ericsson and the Garmin-Asus nuvifone.

More info, listen to the interview with the Managing Editor of Mobile World on BFM 89.9.

A Round Table Discussion with MPC

I attended a round table discussion (RTD) yesterday in MPC(Malaysia Productivity Corporation).

The objective of the RTD is to discuss the latest developments in the telecom sector and to identify the issues and challenges face by the industry.

We discussed a wide range of topics including broadband penetration, challenges faced by the industry players, Mobile Number Portability (MNP), challenges faced by the WiMAX players, mobile wallet, HSBB, Regulatory, Broadband as need/guarantee, USP fund, spectrum, contents...etc

The RTD was attended by more than 15 representative from the industry including MCMC, Asiaspace, Celcom, Felda, Sirim, KTAK, Dapat and more. Although being invited, TM did not send any representative to this RTD.

All suggestion and ideas from this RTD will be forwarded to the relevant department and the management of MCMC for action.

There will definitely be a second RTD and certainly a bigger one.

Telco Talk Malaysia would like to thank MPC for recognizing this site as a blog that could play a role in the development of the local telecom industry.

GoMobile Clique

Note: This is a post from Go Mobile 2008

GoMobile 2008 is going to be a very exciting event for many reasons.
  1. It’s the biggest ever mobile lifestyle event in Malaysia.
  2. This is the first time such an event has been held in Malaysia.
There are so many other reasons. In fact, we think nothing like this has ever been held anywhere else in the world!

That’s why we want as many people as possible to be there come Nov 21-23. To do that we want to recruit you as a member of the GoMobile Clique.

Here’s what you have to do. It’s simple, really.

1. Tell people about GoMobile.

2. Do it anyway you want. Be creative.

3. Find us on Facebook, Friendster or MySpace and tell us what you have been doing.

4. Post videos, pictures or just write about what you have been doing to tell the world about GoMobile 2008.

The GoMobile team will make its rounds and the one who’s done the most to promote GoMobile every week will win prizes and we mean great prizes like mobile phones and MP4 players. This goes on every week until GoMobile happens. Finally bring your card back to the GoMobile Clique booth at GoMobile 2008 to get more cool premiums.

Femtocell Asia 2008

Femtocells Asia 2008, Asia’s very first international conference on femtocells organised by the UK-based Avren Events kicked off in the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 22 September.

It was attended by 150 delegates, a quarter of whom represented operators, mostly from Asia, with the rest from Europe and the United States.

While Avren’s previous Femtocells events held in Europe and the United States were attended by 250 delegates, Avren’s marketing director Carole Mayhew expects more delegates to attend its next Femtocells Asia event next year.

“We see femtocells as a growing technology and our Femtocells events are a natural extension of our Basestation Conference,” said Mayhew.

Founded in 2003, Avren held its inaugural Femtocells event in Europe last year, which also was the world’s first femtocells event.

It’s held three more Femtocells events -- one in Europe and two in the United States – with Femtocells Asia 2008 being its fifth.

But what are femtocells? Continue reading here
